MAYU Swirl Troubleshooting

If your MAYU Swirl isn’t working as expected, don’t worry—most issues can be resolved quickly with a few simple steps. Below is a guide to help you troubleshoot the most common problems.

The vortex isn’t forming

Step-by-Step Checklist:

1. Check Your Charging Block
  1. The Swirl base operates at 5V — 1000 mA (1A).
  2. Many standard USB chargers deliver higher voltage (e.g., 9V or 12V), which can cause the motor to malfunction or not start at all.
  3. Always use the original MAYU charging block supplied in your box. If unavailable, ensure your adapter outputs exactly 5V at 1A.
2. Check the Magnetic Impeller
  1. Make sure the white impeller is correctly placed at the center of the carafe bottom.
  2. If it’s misaligned, the vortex won’t form.
3. Center the Carafe on the Base
  1. Gently place the carafe so it’s perfectly centered on the porcelain base.
4. Ensure the Base is Powered
  1. Connect the USB-C cable securely to a compatible power source or ensure the internal battery is charged.
  2. If needed, charge for at least 30 minutes before use.
5. Tap the Touch Button
  1. Lightly tap the touch-sensitive button to activate the vortex. You should see immediate movement.

Advanced Tip: Base Plate Alignment

If all the above steps are correct and the vortex still doesn’t form or is weak:
  1. The metal base plate may have shifted slightly—especially if the unit was slid across a surface.
  2. If the edge of the base plate is touching the porcelain, it can interfere with the built-in load sensor. This sensor detects the weight of the water to control vortex speed.
    If the plate is misaligned, the base may misread the weight, preventing the motor from spinning or causing it to spin slowly.

The Swirl doesn’t turn on

  1. Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected and the adapter is powered.
  2. Try a different USB port or compatible adapter with 5V — 1A output.
  3. If running on battery, charge the Swirl for at least 30 minutes to ensure sufficient power.

The Impeller isn’t spinning properly

1. Remove and Clean the Impeller
  1. Detach the white impeller and wash with mild soap and water.
2. Check for Magnetic Sticking
  1. If it’s stuck to the glass bottom, gently reposition it to the center.
3. Deep Clean if Needed
  1. Soak the impeller in a solution of:
    1. 1 cup warm water
    2. 1 spoon of bleach
  2. Leave it overnight, then rinse thoroughly and reinstall.

My Swirl making a gurgling noise

If your Swirl is making a gurgling noise or if the vortex seems crooked, center the carafe on the base and the problem should go away.
