Cleaning and Maintenance of Coldstream FTO+ filters

To ensure pure and healthy water at all times, it is essential to regularly maintain your Coldstream FTO+ filters. Proper maintenance ensures optimal performance.

Filter Cleaning

If the filtration flow slows down, scrub the surface of the filters with a clean scouring pad under running water to remove accumulated deposits.
Never use soap, vinegar, or chemicals for cleaning.
Never place the filters in a dishwasher or microwave.

Storage During Absence

Absence of a few days (less than 5 days)
Never drink water that has stagnated in the system for several days. If you are away for more than 5 days, empty the water from the lower reservoir into a container and re-filter it by pouring it back into the upper reservoir.
Extended absence
Empty both reservoirs before leaving. Remove the lid to allow the filters to dry completely in open air to prevent mold growth in a closed, humid environment. You can also remove the filters from the reservoir, let them dry in a well-ventilated place, and store them in a paper bag to allow moisture to escape.
⚠️ Even if dry on the surface, the filters may remain moist inside: never store your filters in an airtight container.

Upon your return, clean the reservoirs of your system with water and dish soap. Reinstall the filters, filter a few liters of water, and discard it before resuming normal use.

Important Precautions

Never allow your filters to freeze while damp, as this would damage their internal structure and make them unusable.
Do not pour boiling water into the system.
Do not use the system with seawater, as the filters do not remove salt.
Note: Coldstream FTO+ filters provide a faster flow rate than Black Berkey filters: this is normal and does not compromise filtration quality.
